Ford Mustang Mach-E vs Tesla Model Y

What Happens When Sporty EVs Square Off?
It seems that Tesla has been the dominating force behind EVs over the last couple of years. Until recently, anyone who wanted an eco-friendly ride didn’t have many choices. That is, of course, until vehicles like the Ford Mustang Mach-E hit the scene. Now it’s hard to look at one without considering the other.
Read on to see a quick comparison between the Ford Mustang Mach-E vs. the Tesla Model Y.
How Much Green to Go Green?
One of the first things you’ll look at when comparing the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Tesla Model Y is their sticker prices. While neither of these vehicles is the least-expensive EV on the market, both offer incredible value.
The 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E starts at $43,895 and goes up to $61,995. There’s also a $1,100 destination charge that’s not included in the MSRP.
The 2022 Tesla Model Y, on the other hand, ranges from $59,990 to $69,990 plus a $1,200 destination charge.
Electric Performance
Both the Mustang Mach-E and Model Y are high-performance machines. They share a similar setup with electric motors placed on the front and rear axle. Tesla’s ModelY Performance trim creates 456 horsepower and 497 lb-ft of torque. The Mustang-E GT trim creates 480 hp and 634 lb-ft of torque.
While the Mustang brings more muscle to the table, the Model Y is faster in a straight line. Ford can get its EV up to 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. Tesla can do the same in 3.5 seconds. You’ll also get a little more out of your electric battery pack with the Tesla, which is rated for 303 miles. The Ford Mach-E is only rated for 260 miles.
Which EV Is the Better Choice?
Both the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y are incredible EVs. They offer incredible style, responsive handling, fast charging rates, and stellar name recognition. For some shoppers, the Tesla Model Y has the edge due to its longer electric driving range and slightly faster powertrain.
The Ford Mustang Mach-E, however, creates more horsepower and torque. It competes pretty well with Tesla’s speed, and it comes with a much lower starting price. When it comes to value, it’s hard to compete with the Mach-E. More importantly, this rig is a continuation of the infamous Mustang nameplate.
